There’s a few things that are important to me…
Real talk: I deeply believe we are born to know ourselves and our belonging in this world. We are not born to get a good job, or do everything right, or tick all the boxes, or make other people happy at the expense of our own authenticity. We are not born for productivity, consumption, and comparison. No. These narratives have taken up enough airtime in many of our lives, and they have not led to flourishing. To take things a step further, I believe these narratives have led to wide-scale degradation of the land, community, and ability to relate to ourselves and others. We are here to be made wildly real to ourselves and to our broader ecosystems, and to contribute meaningfully to the collectives we find ourselves in.
Many of us didn’t have the opportunity to feel safe growing up or ever, or to feel the freedom and support to explore ourselves and our environments. The more we heal, the more we realize our own ability to stay close to ourselves inside and take responsibility for the world we wish to see. I firmly believe that healing ourselves contributes to a saner and more well planet.
Next, I want to say a few things about the foundations of my work as a practitioner in the healing field. I view the relationship between a practitioner and a client as a holy thing. The safety and care of our relationship is paramount in forming the context for a meaningful, healing relationship. The main values on which I build my practice, and which I invite clients to explore, are kindness, truth, and relationship.
Kindness is always our foundation, because inner kindness is paramount in a journey of healing and a life of flourishing. We do not grow, nor uncover our own freedom, by being harsh or aggressive inside. In extending kindness towards ourselves, we create space to encounter our inner experience with more curiosity.
Truth is also central to any healing mission. As we make deeper contact with our inner experience, we start to identify the emotions we’ve disowned, and the strategies we’ve adopted to cope with our lives. We bravely encounter what is hard to see, and we start to prioritize truth over feeling good. We recognize, speak, and act in accordance with our highest values.
Relationship happens in the dance of individuation and connection with others. Individuation means coming to know and own our individual experience, autonomy, self-responsibility, emotions, and more. Connection means recognizing the ways we are intricately woven with other humans and all of life, always informing each other in the great web of existence. All of life is relationship. We honor relationship with ourselves and others by bringing kindness and authenticity to our human experience.
And last but not least, healing work can - dare I say it - be fun at times. Not every day, certainly. But, life is strange! We are in a world of incredibly delightful and incredibly distressing phenomena. The more we bring care and awareness to our life’s experience, the more we learn to hold ourselves lightly while still walking righteously. We find possibility in holding multiple understandings at once. Our lives become imbued with meaning and choice.
Lastly, this kind of healing work is a collaboration. I’ve walked down a lot of roads in the healing fields, and you’ve walked every step of your life. You are the expert on you. Together, we explore the paths and side missions that support your well-being, growth, and ability to actively participate in the world you wish to live in.
